I recently came across a Bing search describing slang throughout the decades.  The mention of “the bee’s knees” & “the cat’s pajamas” made me seek out the etymology of the phrase (meaning “high excellence”, typically unconventional excellence).  I soon discovered secondary phrases with the same intent that didn’t quite stick.  They include:  “the eel’s ankle,” “the elephant’s instep,” and “the snake’s hip.”  God I wish they stuck. ~AKH
